Awakening: God who is Love
A Weekly publication of The Awakening Institute for Spiritual Formation, Spiritual Direction, and Soul Care
Hi Everyone, I pray blessings upon you, that you are experiencing the presence of God in every moment of your days. Now is a good time to be still and let God speak in your heart.
God is Love Revealing Love; That We May Abide in Love and Love May Abide in Us.
(A Meditation) 1
The following meditation touches on the essence of God who is in our midst, which is Love. Allow yourself to become comfortable both physically and emotionally. If possible go to a quiet place, both outwardly and inwardly, as a way to prepare yourself to experience God’s guidance as we consider the following journey given to us by the Apostle John.
First, pray the prayer provided, and then read the Scripture. Finally do the closing meditation, as indicated.
Thank you for your Holy Words of guidance. Help me to always keep your Word in my heart that I may be obedient to Your will. Thank you for loving me and for revealing your Love to me. In the precious name of Jesus Christ I pray.
They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them." NRS John 14:21
Take 3-5 minutes to silently meditate on ways that you have felt God’s self-revelation in your life.
Help me to know You in an ever deepening manner. In the precious name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen
Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. NRS 1 John 4:8
Take 3-5 minutes to silently meditate on ways that you know God.
Our Abiding in Love
Thank you for Your cleansing Word. Help me to become more deeply aware of my abiding in You, in Love. Thank you for the joy You have given to me. Empower me to steadfastly keep Your commandment to love as You love. In the precious name of Jesus Christ I pray.
"I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower. He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. NRS John 15:1-12
Take 3-5 minutes to silently meditate on, and to rest in, God’s love. Meditate on the reality our your abiding in Love at this very moment.
Love Abiding in Us
Thank you Lord for the countless ways in which you support and uphold me in Love. Your grace that allows for me to abide in You and for You to abide in me is beyond anything I can fully understand with my mind. So Lord, I ask that You help me to feel the inward and the outward reality of mutually abiding Love deep in my soul. In the precious name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen
So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. NRS 1 John 4:16
Take 3-5 minutes to silently meditate on God, on Love, which abides deep in your soul. Pay attention to any physical or emotional reactions, as well as any thoughts, that this meditation may bring forth. You may want to journal these reactions for future consideration.
